We have had a lot of moth jobs lately with both the case bearing moth and common clothes moth turning up frequently. We have had jobs in Cheltenham, Stroud, Bourton on the Water\u00a0and Gloucester and have others to do in Painswick and Guiting Power over the next 2 weeks. The Case Bearing Moth’s larvae\u00a0 weave small silk tubes in which\u00a0 they live mainly in woollen carpets. They leave these tubes when they go to pupate\u00a0and they then look like off white grains, like rice sometimes. These are often left under heavy furniture. They eat woollen carpets at an alarming rate. If you see these spent silk tubes, call a professional in soon or your carpet will be severely damaged. The Common Clothes Moth\u00a0 eats woollen clothing and silks but they will also attack fur and feather as well also heavy weave cotton products. None of the moths will attack man made fibres. It is only Keratin which is in natural fibres that they are interested in. We have seen 2 cases involving the Brown House Moth recently too. These don’t cause damage but can be a nuisance.
